Leaker of gruesome shark attack photo revealed

The New South Wales Ambulance Service is facing criticism and backlash after a staff member leaked a graphic image of the wounded leg of Sydney shark attack victim Lauren O'Neill.

The incident occurred after O'Neill fell victim to a bull shark attack in Sydney Harbour, just metres away from her residence. This breach of privacy has not only added to the distress of O'Neill and her loved ones but has raised serious concerns about the protection of patient confidentiality.

The graphic image, taken inside the emergency room as medical professionals worked to stabilise O'Neill, was shared online by a member of the NSW Ambulance staff. This action not only violates the fundamental principle of patient privacy but also calls into question the ethical conduct expected from healthcare professionals in such sensitive situations.

NSW Ambulance issued a public apology, acknowledging the breach of privacy and expressing sincere regret for the additional distress caused to O'Neill and her family.

The statement also revealed that discussions with O'Neill's family led them to believe that a NSW Ambulance staff member was responsible for the privacy breach.

“NSW Ambulance sincerely apologises to Ms O’Neill for the breach of her privacy and the additional distress it has caused her and her loved ones at this most difficult time,” a spokesperson said. “We spoke with Ms O’Neill’s family this afternoon and informed them that we believe a NSW Ambulance staff member was responsible for the breach of her privacy.

“NSW Ambulance takes its patient privacy obligations very seriously and is continuing to investigate this breach to determine the full details of the incident.”

St Vincent's Hospital, where Ms. O'Neill was taken for urgent medical attention, has launched its own investigation into the matter, along with the involvement of NSW Police. The gravity of the situation is underscored by the fact that O'Neill's right leg was in jeopardy, and the medical teams worked tirelessly to save it.

O'Neill, a microbiologist, has expressed her gratitude to the heroic neighbours, to NSW Ambulance paramedics, Kings Cross Police and the surgical teams at St Vincent's Hospital for their swift and caring actions. However, the unfortunate leak of the graphic image has marred what should have been a focus on her recovery and gratitude towards those who aided her in the aftermath of the terrifying attack.

As O'Neill transitions from the Intensive Care Unit to a recovery ward, it is crucial for the public to reflect on the importance of patient privacy and the trust placed in healthcare professionals during moments of vulnerability. The breach has sparked outrage among the public, with many demanding accountability and stricter measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Images: Instagram

Leaked photo of Sydney shark victim sparks urgent probe

The sanctity of patient privacy has come under scrutiny at Sydney's St Vincent's Hospital following the leak of a graphic photograph depicting the treatment of shark attack victim Lauren O'Neill.

The 29-year-old suffered a serious injury after being attacked by a bull shark near a private wharf in Elizabeth Bay, sparking both a medical and privacy crisis.

The photograph in question, which we are not going to publish, shows Ms O'Neill's uncovered leg being attended to by medical staff, and has stirred concerns about the vulnerability of patient privacy in the digital age. St Vincent's Hospital has launched a comprehensive investigation into the breach, expressing deep regret and extending apologies to Ms O'Neill.

"St Vincent’s has become aware of photos in the public domain that appear to have been taken in the Emergency Department and are related to those of a patient injury," said hospital spokesperson David Faktor.

"We have sincerely apologised for any part St Vincent’s played in the photos being taken."

The investigation aims to uncover the identity of the person responsible for taking the photograph and how it ended up in the public domain. Faktor aptly described the incident as a "wake-up call", highlighting the ease with which privacy can be compromised in today's digital landscape.

Ms O'Neill, who is on track for a full recovery, expressed her gratitude to the heroic neighbours, emergency services and medical professionals who aided her. However, her appreciation comes amid the distressing breach of her privacy during a vulnerable moment.

As the investigation unfolds, it is crucial for St Vincent's Hospital to implement robust protocols and security measures to prevent future breaches and reassure the public of their commitment to patient confidentiality.

Images: Instagram

Sam Newman grilled point-blank: "Are you a racist?"

Sam Newman has been left struggling to come up with an answer after being asked if he is a racist.

The former AFL player spoke with Tony Jones on 3AW radio on Thursday, as he doubled down on recent comments that encouraged Australians to boo during Welcome to Country acknowledgements.

While defending his opinions, Newman was asked point-blank by Jones, "Are you a racist?"

Newman stuttered in response, "Now... what a... No, no, please..."

Jones clarified his question, "I think there would be people listening to this at the moment with an open mind that would want me to ask that question."

Newman became immediately defensive, asking in retaliation, "Please... now you tell me what you think a racist is besides saying me ... Who have I vilified? I don't think you know what racism is.

"Racism is about hate primarily and it's if you defile, decry or degrade someone, think you're superior than them or try to dominate them."

"It's the most overworked word in the English lexicon at the minute... you tell me why anything I've said and what I've done is anything to do with racism."

Newman then went on to highlight the past controversy surrounding Indigenous AFL legend Adam Goodes, saying he was relentlessly booed while playing because of an incident on the field, and not because of his race.

"[In 2015] Adam Goodes was booed because he pretended to throw a spear at the Carlton cheer squad after the Swans were beating them by 10 goals at half-time and wondered why people... people get booed on the football field, not because of their skin colour, but because of things they do," Newman said.

"I know that, everyone knows that. Then the AFL waded into this... and said 'please don't boo Adam Goodes'. That's like red rag to a bull."

Contrary to Newman's comments, Goodes had been booed for weeks prior to tha incident by the crowd every time he neared the ball, with the crowd escalating their behaviour, which resulted in fans being kicked out of the stadium.

Newman also insisted he was not attempting to incite violence against First Nations Australians after he urged people to boo the Welcome to Country at the AFL Grand Final.

"We like to go to the football and watch the game without being told to vote for the gay marriage proposal, which is fine, without being told to vote for the Voice - I know (the AFL) has retracted their direction to vote Yes for the Voice. Why do they get involved?" he said.

"I'll tell you. It's an absolute hoax. It's a rort. Welcome to Country. Why do we have to be welcomed to the country we live in? Why is that? It is just a mark of division. The people who welcome you to country get a nice stipend out of it. Why do they charge to have it? It is just a rort."

Just prior to his radio appearance, senator Lidia Thorpe once again blasted his comments on the Today Show.

"Sam Newman, I'm not sure why he's even in the news. He's irrelevant to any debate of the time," she said on Thursday morning.

"It's about peace. The whole message behind it is respect."

"Sam Newman is not a respectful man at the best of times. He needs to educate himself."

Jock Zonfrillo's wife's touching words at private funeral

Late Masterchef judge Jock Zonfrillo has been laid to rest by his loved ones at a private funeral in Sydney.

His wife, Lauren Fried, was there with their four children - Eva, Sophie, Alfie, And Isla - as well as other members of the late chef’s family, who had flown in from Scotland and the United States to pay their respects.

Zonfrillo’s Masterchef co-hosts Melissa Leong and Andy Allen could also be spotted in pictures that circulated online after the service, alongside the likes of fellow Scot Jimmy Barnes, and chefs George Colombaris, Manu Feidel, Colin Fassnidge, Miguel Maestre, and Matt Moran.

Barnes was later joined by his daughter, Mahalia, and the two performed a touching rendition of ‘Amazing Grace’ for the service.

Lauren led their small procession of mourners into the chapel, with tartan draped across a shoulder, as an indigenous smoking ceremony took place, and bagpipes were played. Pictures revealed that Zonfrillo’s coffin had been adorned with the Royal Banner of Scotland, and topped with a bouquet of white roses and orchids.

It was a heartbreaking scene to witness, but it was Lauren’s words within the chapel that have struck a chord with mourners, as she paid tribute to her late husband.

“We are two halves that found each other at the exact moment in life when we were ready,” she said, according to The Daily Mail. “We were ready for that big love to live a life of adventure, to become parents together, to imagine extraordinary things and to actually make them happen.”

Zonfrillo’s daughter Ava - one of two from a former relationship - added that “it goes without saying that at the heart of everything you did was family.

“And one of the hardest things to accept is that you won’t be here to see ours grow.”

And to everyone, they added, “for those who crossed his path and became his mate or were lucky enough to be in this family, keep this proud Scot in your heart when you have your next whisky.”

No wake was held after the funeral, with one attendee informing The Daily Mail that “the family just wants it to happen without any of the attention his death has attracted, which has understandably been overwhelming.

“They're trying to keep it as personal as they can. It's critical they be given the space to do that.”

Images: Instagram

Jennifer Lopez and her new husband Ben Affleck celebrated their marriage once again after already tying the knot.

The newlyweds said their vows in an intimate ceremony in Vegas on July 17, just three months after being engaged (for the second time).

Affleck first proposed to Lopez, now known as Mrs Jennifer Lynn Affleck, 20 years ago.

The loved up couple however wanted to celebrate their marriage and did so on August 20, with Mrs Affleck showing off three stunning wedding dresses designed by Ralph Lauren.

In her newsletter, On The JLo, the singer shared stunning images of the three wedding dresses which are each estimated to cost around the $1 million mark.

“The dresses were dreamy...thank you Ralph Lauren,” she wrote with a heart.

“I will be sharing a few more pics and delicious details on our big day coming very soon On The JLo…”

The first photo showed the bride in a breathtaking curve-snatching dress with a spectacular 20 foot ruffled train.

Another image showed Mrs Affleck wearing a second wedding dress with a plunging neckline and crystals sewn on.

The third and final image showed Mrs Affleck sitting on a swing in the dress which was covered in strings of pearls sewn onto the gown with Swarovski crystal detailing.

When the pair married, JLo shared the news to her devoted followers in her newsletter.

“WE DID IT!” she began.

“We did it. Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient.

“Exactly what we wanted. Last night we flew to Vegas, stood in line for a license with four other couples, all making the same journey to the wedding capital of the world.”

Mrs Affleck said there were different couples around them who were “wanting the same thing” as they waited patiently for their turn.

“We barely made it to the little white wedding chapel by midnight. They graciously stayed open late a few minutes, let us take pictures in a pink Cadillac convertible, evidently once used by the king himself (but if we wanted Elvis himself to show, that cost extra and he was in bed),” she joked.

“So with the best witnesses you could ever imagine, a dress from an old movie and a jacket from Ben’s closet, we read our own vows in the little chapel and gave one another the rings we’ll wear for the rest of our lives.

“They even had Bluetooth for a (short) march down the aisle. But in the end it was the best possible wedding we could have imagined.

“One we dreamed of long ago and one made real (in the eyes of the state, Las Vegas, a pink convertible and one another) at very, very long last.

“When love is real, the only thing that matters in marriage is one another and the promise we make to love, care, understand, be patient, loving and good to one another.

“We had that. And so much more. Best night of our lives. Thank you to the Little White Wedding chapel for letting me use the break room to change while Ben changed in the men’s room.

“They were right when they said, ‘all you need is love’. We are so grateful to have that in abundance, a new wonderful family of five amazing children and a life that we have never had more reason to look forward to.

“Stick around long enough and maybe you’ll find the best moment of your life in a drive through in Las Vegas at twelve thirty in the morning in the tunnel of love drive through, with your kids and the one you’ll spend forever with.

“Love is a great thing, maybe the best of things-and worth waiting for.

“With love, Mrs. Jennifer Lynn Affleck.”

Images: Supplied

Lauren Hutton poses topless

With a modelling career spanning six decades, Lauren Hutton is well aware of how youth is prioritised in the industry and has shared an insight into what it’s like to continue working at 78.

The model and actress, styling a Gucci blazer and plants (and nothing else) on the May issue of Harper's Bazaar, spoke about her career, skincare routine and what it was like to jump back into modelling by snagging the biggest modelling contract in history.

“I was about to become 30, and I knew I was about to expire, and wanted to protect myself with a contract that would guarantee I kept working for years to come,” she told the publication.

“So I got a contract with Revlon. How a blank cheque offer won the battle for a luxurious apartment

A Sydney home seller has pocketed a huge price for their luxurious property after a determined buyer showed their agent a signed blank cheque and invited them to fill in whatever price they wanted.

The offer was made during an open inspection of the three-bedroom Barangaroo apartment, and proved to be too persuasive for the sellers to turn down.

Despite being reluctant to sell their home, the owners signed the paperwork and accepted the cheque with their own asking value.

Their price: $6.58 million.

The eye-watering sum was $1.5 million above the price the sellers expected to make on the waterfront property, which was scheduled for auction just a few weeks later.

It was not the only staggering offer the sellers received for the apartment on 601/19 Barangaroo Avenue.

Another buyer reportedly showed selling agent Peter Li a banking app on his phone and offered to transfer the money to Mr Li directly to lock in the sale.

“The successful buyer was the guy who brought his cheque book, he lived in the building and wanted to upsize to a three-bedroom apartment … this was the last three-bedroom option available,” Mr Li said.

“Five million was our initial price guide, we sold this for $1.5m more than the initial price guide – about 30 per cent.”

“The vendor was determined to go to auction, but changed her mind when she saw the price we had already achieved. Woman turns herself in after fatal attack on 87-year-old singing coach

A 26-year-old woman has turned herself in to police after admitting to attacking an 87-year-old woman, which led to her death.

Lauren Pazienza shoved Barbara Maier Gustern before striking her on the back of the head in an unprompted attack on March 10th in New York City.

The NYPD released a picture of the woman wanted for the attack, just days before Lauren turned herself in to authorities.

Police identified Pazienza through video and her Metrocard, police sources said.

Pazienza covered her face with her hair as she was led by detectives to a car for transport to criminal court, as she refused to answer reporters who asked her about the allegation she pushed Gustern.

Following the brutal attack, Barbara was in critical condition until she died from her injuries on March 14th.

“Today, at 11:15am, we have lost one of the brightest little flames to ever grace this world,” her grandson wrote on Gustern’s Facebook page.

“I ask that you all give me a little time and space, but I want to make time for anyone and everyone who wants to know more about her final moments,” the post said.

“Bobbob, I love you, you are and always will be my heart,” it said. “I love you all so much, I could not have made it through these past 5 days without all of your support.”

Barbara Maier Gustern, who was a renowned vocal coach and tutored famous students including Blondie singer Debbie Harry, was walking around at night alone when the attack occurred.

Her red-headed attacker then ran off, with police saying the attacker crossed the street before pushing Gustern, who suffered a fatal head injury.

NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig described it as a “disgusting, disgraceful law offence” committed against a “vulnerable elderly female who is doing nothing but walking down the streets of New York City”.

Artist turns in blank canvases after hefty payday

A daring art heist has been carried out in the most audacious way in a Danish museum.

The Kunsten Museum of Modern Art in the Danish city of Aalborg offered artist Jens Haaning to recreate two of his most famous works titled An Average Danish Annual Income and An Average Austrian Annual Income.

The politically charged artworks used actual banknotes to reflect the average working wage for citizens of Denmark and Austria.

The remakes were set to appear in a current exhibition titled Work it Out, which delves into the role of artists in the labour market.

The institution lent Jens Haaning $117,000AUD to complete the recreations, and offered an extra $9,700 if needed.

As per the contract the artist signed, the money would have to be returned to the museum at the end of the exhibition on January 16th 2022.

Upon receiving a suspicious email from the artist, the museum curators suspected something was not quite right.

The email told the museum that the title of the artwork had been changed, and was now called Take the Money and Run.

As the museum staff opened the box containing Mr Haaning’s ‘artworks’, they discovered two blank canvases while the cash had completely disappeared.

“The money had not been put into the work,” museum director Lasse Andersson told CBS.

Despite the controversy, Mr Haaning defended his bold decision.

“The work is that I have taken their money,” the artist told Danish radio program P1 Morgen of the performance piece and mega-minimalist work.

“It’s not theft. Three girls murdered: "Something doesn't add up"

Locals and loved ones alike say they can’t comprehend what’s happened after Lauren Dickason has allegedly murdered her three daughters in Timaru on New Zealand’s South Island.

The three girls were found dead at home - twin sisters Maya and Karla, aged two and Liane, aged six. New Zealand Police did not share the nature of their injuries.

Their mother Lauren Dickason, a doctor, briefly fronted court on Saturday morning, charged with murder.

Police state no other people are sought in relation to this crime

New Zealand Police have made a statement saying: ‘Police would like to reassure the community that this was a tragic isolated incident and we are not seeking anyone else.’

‘The investigation into this tragedy is still in its very early stages, but we can confirm that nobody else is being sought in relation to the deaths of the three children,’ another statement read.

Lauren Dickason’s husband Graham, an orthopaedic surgeon, is reported to have returned home from work late last week to find the girls’ bodies and was said to have been “crying hysterically”.

The Dickason family had moved to New Zealand from South Africa to start a new life in August and had exited two weeks of mandatory hotel quarantine only last week.

Neighbour’s and friends can’t comprehend the situation

Lauren’s former colleague and neighbour, Natasja le Roux, told media she “cannot comprehend what happened”.

“(Lauren) is a medical doctor and she wasn’t arrogant or anything like that,” le Roux said.

“She was very humble.”

Le Roux said the couple had “waited years for those children” after struggling with fertility.

When Lauren finally fell pregnant, everyone around the family was supportive and Le Roux said: “The nicest person it could happen to is that woman; she was really just a nice person, she and her husband.”

Another neighbour, who lived in the same area as the couple, said the parents “absolutely adored those children”.

“Something just doesn’t seem right to us,” the neighbour, who did not want to be identified.

“We don’t know what happened. There is not a lot of information, but they are kind people.

“Something just doesn’t add up.

“I don’t know if it’s the stress from New Zealand, moving there, being quarantined for so long and everything - just not coping with that going on.

“So, I think whatever happened is not normal, it wasn’t normal circumstances.”

“Something just doesn’t add up.”

Grandparents are in a “state of shock”

In a statement, Lauren’s parents and the children’s grandparents Wendy and Malcolm Fawkes, said the extended family were in a “state of shock”.

“The extended families are in a state of shock as we try to understand what happened,” their statement read.

“We ask for your prayers and support during this very difficult time. We would also request privacy as we battle to come to terms with what has happened.”

“I’m torn apart”

Mandy Sibanyoni, who worked as a nanny for the Dickasons in South Africa, described them as an “awesome family” with “wonderful kids” and no obvious problems.

She said the only sign of “stress” she saw from Lauren was as a result of one of her daughters being born with a lip disfigurement, which needed surgical interventions.

But both parents “loved their kids like nobody’s business,” she said.

“I’m torn apart - a part of mine is gone,” Sibanyoni said in an interview with media in South Aftrica.

“And it’s like those kids, they are my kids too because I raised them.”

“I don’t know what to do about this because the only question that I’ve got now is, what happened? What went wrong? Because Lauren cared for her kids,” Sibanyoni added.

Images: Facebook
